• London screening of documentary film on the EUYO

    In Spring 2011, Tay Blythe-Kubota, a student at the London Film School, joined the European Union Youth Orchestra for their twelve-day rehearsal period in the city of Łódź, Poland. For the whole period, Tay joined in every aspect of the life of the orchestra, shadowing our musicians from rehearsals through to a unique chamber concert in the Museum of Modern Art. The resulting film is a very moving and intimate portrait of the Orchestra. On Thursday, 2nd February, Tay's film will be screened alongside those of four other LFS students, at the Institut Français in London. Read more

  • EUYO's orchestral pianist, Robin Green, wins 1st prize in prestigious Concours Nicati

    We are delighted to share the news that the Francoise-Green duo - Robin Green was the EUYO's orchestral pianist last season - has recently been awarded 1st Prize in the prestigious Concours Nicati, with a programme of Kurtag, Ligeti and John Adams.

  • Twenty - seven heavens: interview with Richard Causton, composer of the EUYO's commission to celebrate the London 2012 Olympics

    The EUYO is commissioning - for the very first time since the orchestra was founded - a new work to celebrate the London Olympics, as part of the PRS for Music Foundation's New Music 20x12 programme (there are twenty commissions in total, each lasting 12 minutes, and all of which will be performed during the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad).   • Standing ovation at the Concertgebouw in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Beatrix

    Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands joined a rapturous audience in a standing ovation at the end the European Union Youth Orchestra's concert at the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam on Tuesday 9 August, where they performed Janacek's Sinfonietta and Bruckner's Symphony No 4 in Eb.

  • EUYO explores 'the dark side', surrealism and the world of the child at Grafenegg Music Summer and Carinthischer Sommer

    The EUYO will launch its summer tour 2011 with two magnificent concerts in Grafenegg, Austria, as part of the renowned Grafenegg Music Summer series. After a two-week rehearsal period, generously hosted by Grafenegg, the EUYO will perform on Saturday 6 and Saturday 13 August under the baton of Dutch Maestro Jaap Van Zweden and the EUYO's much-loved Music Director, Vladimir Ashkenazy.   • EUYO performs at the Europa Nostra Awards ceremony at the Concertgebouw

    The EUYO was deeply honoured to have been invited to perform at a Gala Concert at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw on Friday 10th June, to celebrate the 2011 Europa Nostra Awards, in the presence of European Commissioner for Culture Androulla Vassiliou and Europa Nostra's President, Plácido Domingo.

  • EUYO performs Liszt's only opera, Don Sanche, in celebration of Europe Day

    In a fitting tribute to the talents of Europe's youth, the musicians of the EUYO had the rare opportunity to perform excerpts from Liszt's Don Sanche, written when he was still only 13 years old, at a private concert in St John's Smith Square, London, on Monday 9th May. The concert was hosted jointly by the European Commission and Parliament offices, along with the Hungarian Embassy and Cultural Centre, in celebration of 'Europe Day', which marks the official 'birthday' of the European Union.
