EUYO CELLIST'S STRING QUARTET WINS SPECIAL PRIZE AT INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION!

David Sloan, a current cellist of the EUYO, and his colleagues in the Cantabile String Quartet, Gongbo Jiang, Wen Wang and Hua Zhong, were finalists at the 1st International Sándor Végh String Quartet Competition where they were awarded a Special Prize for their interpretation of Lajtha.

These four talented young musicians came together to form the Cantabile String Quartet at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2011. By achieving joint 1st prize at the "Cavatina" Intercollegiate Quartet Competition in London in their first year, as well as winning all possible chamber music prizes at the RCS in 2010-11, they are proving to be one of the most dynamic and promising string quartets emerging from the UK conservatoires.

In the 2011-2012 season the quartet toured to China promoting the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland giving a series of performances. Another highlight for them this season was their debut performance at the Wigmore Hall through Pro Corda's Musical Encounters Programme.

Speaking for the quartet, David said: "We had a fantastic time at the competition and we are delighted to have received such a prestigious award."
