EUYO ALUMNUS APPOINTED PRINCIPAL CONDUCTOR OF THE GäVLE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

Jaime Martin, former flautist of the EUYO, has recently been announced as Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Gävle Symphony Orchestra. Jaime first joined the ECYO (EUYO's predecessor) in 1988 whilst studying at the Royal Conservatoire of The Haag, Netherlands. The Spanish conductor is also one of Europe's leading solo and orchestral flautists, having most recently performed as principal flute of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra of Europe. As a talented conductor, Jaime has already worked with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, English Chamber Orchestra and Orchestre National de Lyon, as well as a number of Spanish symphony orchestras. Jaime's future conducting debuts inculde performances with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Musikkollegium Winterthurr, Lausanne Chamber Orchestra and Beijing Symphony Orchestra. Operatic conducting is another area in which Jaime will be making his debut in the near future. He will conduct performances of Zauberflote at El Escorial Festival in Madrid and San Sebastian Festival later this year, as well as Barber de Seville with the English National Opera in early 2013. In a press release, Jaime expresses great enthusiasm for his new role with Gävle Symphony Orchestra:

"I am delighted to be taking up the post of Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of the Gävle Symphony Orchestra. Sweden has a vibrant history of music making and this is an exciting time for the Orchestra, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. In close association with the players, I am very much looking forward to developing exciting programmes through collaborations with Swedish and International artists, as well as establishing artists' residencies, touring projects and recordings".

Jaime will next conduct the Gävle Symphony Orchestra this Autumn on 20th September.
