Selection procedure in the UK and Ireland

There are two rounds of auditions in the UK:

  • Preliminaries are held in Birmingham, Glasgow, London and Manchester. There is no preliminary round in Ireland. Candidates will be asked to play a prepared piece of their own choosing (eg: a movement from a concerto, a sonata etc) and a selection of orchestral extracts. Click here to download the orchestral extracts. Percussionists will be asked to play a selection of prepared orchestral extracts only (no piece). An accompanist is provided at both first and second round audition.
  • Finals are held in London and Dublin. The format is the same as the preliminary round.
  • Members of the EUYO and those on the reserve list during the last two years automatically qualify for the final round but an application form must still be submitted.
