ALEKSANDER PAVLOVíC AWARD
Set up in 2008 with a generous donation from Lionel and Joy Bryer, the award is a tribute to Aleksander Pavlovíc, long-standing Artistic Director of the International Youth Foundation and former violin tutor to the European Union Youth Orchestra. He is Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Music, University of Arts in Belgrade and Visiting Professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He has also led master classes in the USA, Greece and the UK.
The Aleksander Pavlovíc Award was presented at the end of the 2009 Summer Tour to Teresa Krahnert, the EUYO Concert Master for the last season. The award is presented annually to the violinist in the Orchestra with the most talent and potential. From Germany, 24-year-old Teresa first joined the Orchestra in the 2006 Summer Tour. She currently studies at the Musikhochschule in Lübeck.
'Playing in the EUYO has been a big part of my life since summer 2006. Somehow it feels like I spend my life in it even if it is just one sixth of the year. This is maybe because EUYO means working together with the most amazing artists, both within the orchestra and backstage, which is something so important and challenging that it influences my musical work for the other 10 months of the year as well. the award made me very happy indeed and I spent the money on a new bow and a new case.'
